As the world’s population continues to grow and concentrate in urban areas, it is critical to ensure efficiency, sustainability and safety of the transportation systems for current and future generations. Railway transportation, especially high-speed and urban rail transportation, is widely known to provide mobility in an economical, efficient, dependable, safe, and environmentally-friendly manner.

随着全球人口不断增长及城市化进程的加快,我们面临的一个重要挑战是确保当前和未来的交通运输系统可以保持高效、安全、可持续的运营。在这样的背景下,铁路运输系统,特别是高速铁路和城市轨道交通系统,成为提供经济、高效、可靠、安全和环保的运输的重要方式。

The Chinese-American Railway Transportation Joint Research Center was established on May 12, 2016, as a long-term partnership between the CRRC Corporation Limited (CRRC), China, and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), USA. Our mission is to engage world-class faculty and researchers at Illinois and state-of-art technologies and practice at CRRC to promote basic and advanced research and development in railway transportation, with a specific focus on engineering technologies for high-speed railway, intercity and urban rail transportation, and freight rail transportation in China and the United States. We also support CRRC with business consulting, academic exchange and technical training.

中美轨道交通研究中心创建于2016年5月12日。它的成立开始了中国中车股份有限公司(中文简称“中国中车”,英文简称缩写“CRRC”)与美国伊利诺伊大学厄巴纳-香槟分校(UIUC)长期的合作伙伴关系。该研究中心的宗旨是汇集UIUC的世界一流的教授和学者,并结合中国中车的先进的技术和实践经验,推进轨道运输领域的基础与前沿研究及科技成果商品化、产业化。中心的研究工作涵盖中美两国的高速铁路、城际及市内轨道交通和货运铁路运输等领域。同时,研究中心也为中国中车提供商业咨询、学术交流和技能培训等方面的支持。

CRRC Corporation Limited, a Fortune-500 company, is the world’s largest supplier of rail transportation equipment with the most complete product lines and leading technologies. Headquartered in Beijing, CRRC has 46 wholly-owned & majority-owned subsidiaries and over 180,000 employees. Its main businesses cover the R&D, design, manufacture, repair, sale, lease and technical services for rolling stock, urban rail transit vehicles, engineering machinery, all types of electrical equipment, electronic equipment and parts, electric products and environmental protection equipment, consulting services, industrial investment and management, asset management, import and export. The CRRC Institute is a strategic support department directly under the CRRC. It mainly functions as the technical economy research center, science and technology resource , as well as the strategic and development research center of CRRC.

The Center has its headquarters in UIUC’s College of Engineering. The University of Illinois has, through an established collaborative, inter- and multi-disciplinary environment, enjoyed its reputation as a world leader in engineering research and development. The College of Engineering is regularly listed among the top engineering programs in the United States and worldwide, both overall and in a number of specific disciplines. Aiming to solve the world’s greatest challenges and introduce revolutionary ideas, our faculty, students and alumni conduct the most innovative and cutting-edge research in not only engineering but also many other scientific domains.

中美轨道交通研究中心总部设在美国伊利诺伊大学厄巴纳-香槟分校工学院。伊利诺伊大学享有世界顶级的多学科交叉的科研环境,其科研实力在世界上享有极高的声誉。工学院综合排名和多个学科排名长期在全美和世界工学院中位居前列。学院教职人员、学生和校友在工学和其他科学领域长期从事最具有创造性和前沿性的研究,旨在解决世界性的挑战并提出具有革新意义的创新理念。

Within the past two years, the Center has successfully developed and applied a range of new technologies such as new generation of train communication and control systems, high-efficiency but small-scale permanent magnet traction motors, fluid mechanics near high-speed trains in a complex environment, air conditioning within trains, new energy-efficient and durable materials in rail systems. Building upon strong partnership with CRRC, we continue to promote innovation and excellence to help solve the most pressing challenges associated with sustainable and efficient railroad transportation.

在过去的两年中,研究中心已成功研发出一系列高新技术并成功应用,包括新一代车辆通信和控制系统、小型高效永磁牵引电动机、复杂环境下高铁车辆外部流体力学特征、车辆内部空气调节系统、新型铁路系统节能耐用材料等技术。研究中心与中国中车已经建立了牢固的伙伴关系,在此基础上,我们将继续坚持创新,致力于解决在可持续的、高效的铁路运输行业领域发展中的所遇到的各种挑战。
